Radiofrequency Ablation for Barrett’s esophagus

TriStar Greenview is the only facility between Louisville and Nashville to offer radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for Barrett’s esophagus. Barrett’s esophagus is a condition that develops as a result of chronic acid reflux or GERD. With this condition, the lining of your esophagus is replaced with tissue that is similar to the lining of the intestine. These abnormal cells can place you at serious risks for esophageal cancers, as well as other serious conditions.

RFA is a safe and highly effective treatment for this condition. In RFA, your gastroenterologist will perform an endoscopy in order to see inside your esophagus. A miniaturized electrode attached to the endoscope will deliver bursts of high-intensity heat energy, targeted towards the abnormal cells of the esophagus. The affected areas are destroyed with minimal injury to any surrounding healthy tissues.

Radiofrequency ablation is a safe and effective treatment option for many patients. Your Greenview gastroenterologist can help determine if it is right for you.
