After 39 years, I still love coming to work and I love what I do. I love the people I work with. It’s the family atmosphere that makes a difference.

My faith gives me compassion for patients and their families. I try to understand what they’re going through and treat them like family. There’s an adrenaline rush to working in the ER but you have to have a passion for people.

Sometimes our patients are in scary situations – they’re not used to coming to the ER. This is our home because we work here all the time, but for some people, it’s a scary place. So we try to make it a little bit more comfortable and help them know what’s going on.

Compassionate care is making sure that you treat everyone like you would want your family to be treated.
