The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is a complex set of regulations governing healthcare provider transactions, portability of health insurance, patient privacy, security of information and other aspects of the relationship between patient and healthcare provider.
- We will protect the patient's privacy rights and protect individually identified health information.
- Each member of our workforce is responsible for using only the minimum information necessary to perform his or her responsibilities including oral, written and electronic communication.
- The patient will have the right to inspect and obtain a copy of their protected health information (PHI).
- Individuals have the right to request to amend PHI contained in the medical and financial patient information for as long as the information is maintained by this facility.
- Individuals have the right to be excluded from facility directory including clergy lists.
- Individuals have the right to an accounting of disclosures made by this facility.
- Individuals have the right to request to receive communications by alternative means or at alternative locations.
- Individuals have the right to request restrictions on the use and disclosure of their protected health information.
HIPAA Privacy Regulations are a set of federal standards created with the intent of protecting patient privacy.
The policies below deal with the privacy regulations. Some of our policies are in stages of development and will be continually updated as we embrace HIPAA. They are being presented now as an educational tool for the community and other healthcare providers.
